irefighters were called to a California home to rescue a 3-year-old boy who became stuck in an unusual place: an in-ground filtering system of a private pool.
The rescue was more intense than they could've imagined.
The crew needed an electric drill to break the concrete surrounding the filter, which is intended to remove debris from the pool. It would have otherwise been impossible to pull out the boy, who was trapped from the waist down. Forty-five minutes later, the boy was finally free.
"He was absolutely elated when he finally got out," said firefighter Robert Frick about the frightened boy.
Sure, this sounds like an unprecedented occurrence, similarly to the child who got stuck while playing in a bouncy castle. But, this freak accident has happened to dozens of other people. Between 2009 to 2013, there were 33 cases of people getting trapped in a pool filtering system, according to statistics. Twenty-one of them were children who faced injuries.
Luckily, the toddler wasn't hurt in this case. Yet, the incident proves how easy it is for children to get injured while playing and how important it is for adults to keep an eye on their tots at all times.

Do akcji ruszyło przeszło 20 strażaków. Bezskutecznie próbowano wyjąć chłopca z plastikowego filtru. W ostatecznym akcji desperacji w ruch ruszyła elektryczna wiertarka. Dzięki niej rozbito beton i wyjęto cały filtr, umożliwiając uwolnienie malucha.

Choć całe zajście jest dość nietypowe, nie jest znowu takie rzadkie. W Stanach Zjednoczonych między 2009 a 2013 rokiem, 33 ludzi utknęło w filtrach basenowych. W 21 przypadkach ofiarami były dzieci. Te wypadki prawie zawsze kończyły się obrażeniami. Dlatego o szczęściu może mówić ten 3-latek, któremu nic się nie stało.
