Wieliczka: a health resort for children and adults. The unique microclimate helps many people

The "Wieliczka" Salt Mine Health Resort has a long history dating back to the 19th century when intensive mining operations were still ongoing. It was during this time that Dr. Feliks Boczkowski noticed that miners working in this location rarely suffered from respiratory diseases. This was a surprising discovery since such conditions are common in this profession. Further observations led to the opening of the world’s first underground allergology sanatorium "Kinga" in 1964, which primarily focused on treating respiratory diseases. In 2011, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was granted the status of the first underground health resort in Poland, where patients can rejuvenate 135 meters underground.

As we learn from the official website of the facility, the health resort currently specializes in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases, utilizing the benefits of the underground microclimate. Indications for a stay include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), recurrent diseases of the nose, sinuses, throat, and larynx, chronic bronchitis and pneumonia, allergic conditions, and bronchial asthma. Patients can apply for a visit under the National Health Fund or opt for a private stay. For shorter visits (1-3 days), no additional tests are required, but they are necessary for longer stays (4-21 days). On-site, you can use the brine graduation tower, exercise spaces, and also enjoy accommodation and meals. Moreover, the offer is tailored for both adults and children. It is also worth noting that Wieliczka is not just a health resort.

Wieliczka Salt Mine: the health resort is not the only attraction here. The visit will be full of experiences

The health resort in Wieliczka is a popular choice among patients and tourists because a visit can be combined with a tour of the famous mine. This site has been rightly listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is impressive, even if you have visited before. In this unique place, you can explore the underground route in the mine, the Kraków Saltworks Museum exhibition, and the Chapel of St. Kinga located 101 meters underground. Wieliczka itself also has a lot to offer. Among the notable landmarks are the Franciscan Reformatory Monastery and the Konopka and Przychocki Palaces.
