Located just 16 km from Kraków, Ojcowski National Park is one of the most popular destinations for trips among Polish tourists. The tourist attractions reopened on May 7th, so you can start planning your visit. What makes this charming park so captivating?

Ojcowski National Park - Łokietek's Cave

On the highest elevation in Ojcowski National Park, known as Góra Chełmowa, lies the Władysław Łokietek Cave. According to legend, the former King of Poland found refuge here for six weeks after fleeing Kraków from Wenceslaus II. His survival is attributed to a spider that covered the cave entrance with a large web, hiding the king's location from the Czech forces. A gate shaped like a spider’s web commemorates this event, marking the entrance to the cave.

This karst cave has attracted numerous tourists for years. The Knight’s Hall and the Bedroom inside the cave leave a lasting impression. Modern lighting, wooden stairs, and long corridors make exploring the cave easier. Before visiting Łokietek’s Cave, it’s advisable to bring warm clothing due to the low temperature inside—ranging from seven to eight degrees Celsius.

Ojcowski National Park - The Ruins of the Castle in Ojców

A Piast dynasty stronghold within Ojcowski National Park is another tourist attraction worth exploring. The Castle in Ojców was built above the Prądnik Valley on a limestone rock foundation. The entrance gate, set against the backdrop of spring trees, is impressive right from the start. Visitors can also admire the remnants of the defensive walls and a 40-meter-deep well. The castle hill offers an excellent observation point with panoramic views of Ojców and the Prądnik Valley. History enthusiasts and lovers of scenic views will be delighted by this visit.

Ojcowski National Park - The Chapel "On the Water"

Ojcowski National Park also features religious landmarks. The Chapel "On the Water" of St. Joseph the Worker is a historic religious building constructed in 1901. The location of the chapel above the banks of the Prądnik stream was chosen strategically to circumvent the Tsarist ban on erecting buildings on Ojców land. The chapel combines elements of Alpine and Zakopane architecture. Inside, you’ll find three ornate altars with peaks resembling peasant cottages, along with patriotic elements. In front of the chapel lies the Goplana Glade and St. John’s spring.
