Iconic desserts from the Polish People's Republic era are making a comeback, and more and more people want to recreate them. It’s no surprise, as these desserts are usually not only delicious but also easy and quick to prepare. Plus, you don’t need any complicated ingredients—everything you need can be found in your kitchen cabinets.

One of the best sweets associated with this period is chocolate block. My grandmother used to make it for every possible occasion. It became one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, and I always asked her for the recipe. Today, I can share it, so everyone can recreate it at home.

Instructions:

  1. Transfer the biscuits to a bowl and crush them into smaller pieces using a pestle. Shell and peel the nuts, then chop them finely.
  2. Pour the water into a saucepan, add the margarine and sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook until everything is completely melted. To prevent the ingredients from burning, remember to stir constantly.
  3. Once melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the powdered milk and sifted cocoa powder. Stir vigorously until you achieve a smooth consistency.
  4. Add the crushed biscuits and chopped nuts to the mixture, and mix again.
  5. Line a loaf pan with baking paper or aluminum foil. Pour the mixture into the pan and level the top with a spatula.
  6. Place the prepared dessert in the refrigerator overnight to set. Afterward, cut it into thick slices and serve.
