In Polish cuisine, we can observe various flavor combinations that are given unique names. "Dandelion fart" is one such example. This treat is exceptionally tasty, and its preparation time is very quick. It's better to make a lot because it will disappear in the blink of an eye.

The sweet treat known as "dandelion fart" refers to wind donuts. The unusual name may surprise many and encourage them to try the recipe. However, it’s not just the name that attracts people to these bites. In addition to the interesting name, these sweets also stand out with an intriguing taste. These donuts are not made in the traditional way that grandmothers talk about. Almost all the ingredients need to be boiled first, and then fried in hot oil. The resulting mixture forms neat and small donuts that disappear from the table in less than 5 minutes.

Recipe for Dandelion Fart, or Wind Donuts

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of wheat flour
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 50 g of fine sugar
  • 50 g of butter
  • 4 eggs
  • A shot of rum
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1.5 liters of oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. First, pour the milk into a saucepan. Then add the chopped butter and place it on medium heat. Stir continuously until the butter is completely melted.
  2. Add a pinch of salt, sugar, and grated zest from a washed medium lemon to the warm ingredients. Stir again and bring to a boil.
  3. Pour the sifted flour into the boiling milk and reduce the temperature. Use a whisk or wooden spoon to stir the ingredients vigorously. The mixture should form a smooth and uniform dough. Set the dough aside to cool.
  4. Gradually add the eggs to the cooled dough, mixing constantly. Finally, pour in the rum and mix again. Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes.
  5. Heat the oil in a pot. Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil. Fry them on each side for a few minutes until golden brown.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the prepared donuts and place them on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain the excess oil.
  7. Once cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
