Preparation:

  1. Prepare the yeast starter. Crumble the yeast, add the sugar, and mix well. Add 2 teaspoons of flour and a few tablespoons of warm milk. The starter should have the consistency of cream. Set it aside for about 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, sift the remaining flour onto a pastry board, add the sugar, vanilla sugar, and cold butter. Chop the mixture until it resembles crumbs.
  3. Form a mound with the prepared flour mixture, place the risen starter and beaten egg yolks in the center. Gradually add the remaining milk.
  4. Knead the dough and form it into a ball. Leave it to rise for about an hour and a half. Then, roll out the dough and cut it into strips. Make a slit in the center of each strip and thread one end of the faworki through the opening. Cover the prepared faworki with a cloth to prevent them from drying out.
  5. Heat the oil in a pot. The faworki should start frying immediately when dropped into the oil.
  6. Fry the faworki until they are golden brown. Once done, simply sprinkle them with powdered sugar.

Enjoy your meal!
