The unusual incident occurred on Tuesday, August 20, at a construction site near Plac Powstańców Warszawy. Miejski Reporter was the first to report the event on Facebook.
In an interview with Gazeta.pl, Junior Aspirant Jakub Pacyniak, the press officer for the Warsaw I Police District, confirmed the information. He stated that the police intervened at the scene, during which the man was identified. It turned out that he was the crane operator. The police also conducted a breathalyzer test, and the man was found to be sober.
The construction worker, dressed only in boxer shorts, was skipping rope at the top of the crane. Miejski Reporter determined that he wanted to stretch out.
Tomasz Klarkowski, who runs a YouTube channel under the pseudonym Einar Thorwaldsen and discusses topics related to crane operation, commented on the situation on Facebook. "As operators, we sit for long periods at work, so any physical activity is recommended," he wrote. Klarkowski noted that the greatest risk of an accident occurs when climbing up and down the crane, "and at this point, joints that are extremely burdened by prolonged sitting can fail. Muscle contractions, poor blood circulation, and similar issues," he explained on Facebook.
In 2019, Tomasz Klarkowski brought attention to the critical conditions in crane operator cabins, where temperatures could reach up to 50 degrees Celsius. In an interview with next.gazeta.pl, he stated that his efforts led to the inclusion of regulations in occupational health and safety laws that require crane cabin temperatures to be maintained between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius. He also noted that air conditioners are increasingly being installed in cranes, though this mainly applies to larger companies. However, the devices are often inefficient and poorly maintained.
