Jakub Józef Orliński is a Polish singer, countertenor, and b-boy, meaning a breakdancer. He is also involved in modeling. He has received numerous accolades. In 2024 alone, he won awards such as the BBC Music Magazine Award (Vocal Award) for his album "Beyond," Fryderyk 2024 (Album of the Year: Early Music), and Prix / Prijzen Caecilia 2023. However, it was this year’s performance during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris that drew even more attention to him. But how did the artist end up at such a major event in the first place?
Jakub Józef Orliński spoke in more detail about his experiences related to the Olympics in Paris during an interview with the portal Pudelek. It turns out that he had known about his performance since the beginning of this year, but he was obligated to keep it a secret. Interestingly, the decision to choose Orliński was made without a casting, although there were some efforts from him and his manager. It’s important to note that the artist was particularly keen on the opportunity to perform breakdance.
I knew I wanted to do something around these Olympics that would shine more light on breaking. It turned out that we fought for 2 months, sending emails to the Ministry of Culture in France... But we will never know who was first because we managed to meet on Zoom. There was no casting; they said from the beginning that I was meant to be the guest in this chapter of the show
- Orliński recalled in the interview with Pudelek. So, is he satisfied with what he achieved?
The Olympic Games in Paris were undoubtedly a significant event in Orliński’s life, but some may be surprised to learn that the singer did not receive any payment for his impressive vocal and dance performance.
I didn't earn anything there. I acted purely out of passion. For me, it was a great honor, so I have no idea about the rules regarding who gets paid and who doesn’t. [...] I earn money from other situations, and this was simply a very important personal experience for me. Because it was such a historic event
- Orliński candidly admitted to Pudelek. However, it’s hard to say he gained nothing. He certainly gained more fans, as he noticed from the increase in his Instagram followers. On August 15, he also performed at the opening of the "Paderewski's Gift" exhibition at the Museum of Interiors in Otwock Wielki, and after the concert, he was honored with the Gold Medal for "Merit to Culture Gloria Artis. This is an award given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to artistic creation, cultural activity, or the protection of national culture and heritage.
