Out of 160 soft-serve ice cream samples analyzed by the sanitary inspectors in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, more than half - 85 samples - were found to be problematic, reports RFM FM. In the coastal area covering the counties of Gryfice, Kamień, Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Sławno, and the city of Świnoujście, 85 samples of ice cream were tested, and 60 were found to be contaminated. Last year, only 42% of samples were found problematic, and two years ago, it was 44%.
No pathogenic bacteria, such as Salmonella, were detected in the ice cream samples. However, the tests showed that they were contaminated above the acceptable levels with Enterobacteriaceae bacteria, indicating a lack of proper hygiene in the production process of soft-serve ice cream.
Nevertheless, the sanitary inspectors issued administrative orders in only six cases, requiring the washing and disinfection of equipment and production surfaces, as well as the presentation of test results confirming the effectiveness of these measures.
In June, the sanitary inspectors conducted a more general inspection campaign. During that time, over ten days in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, open-type catering establishments such as restaurants, bars, cafes, ice cream parlors, and food trucks were inspected. A total of 217 inspections were carried out, including 8 intervention checks. Officials issued 33 fines totaling 12,000 PLN, reported the portal wgospodarce.pl in July, citing PAP.
The most common violations found were improper hygienic and sanitary conditions of premises, equipment, and tools, improper food storage conditions, lack of traceability of food products, expired food, lack of ongoing cleanliness, failure to follow procedures and instructions developed as part of good hygiene practices and good manufacturing practices, and based on the principles of the HACCP system
- said Zbigniew Zawadzki, spokesperson for the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Gdańsk.
