The creator of the "Prawo Marcina" profile, who uses social media to educate people about laws and regulations, decided to visit a grocery store this time. In a video posted on TikTok, he showed a customer being "caught" touching bread rolls with her bare hand. Like many of us, the woman was unaware of the potential consequences.
Why are you squeezing that bread roll with your bare hand?
- Marcin Kruszewski asked at the beginning of the video. "I think I’ll put it back; I’m not sure if it’s fresh" - the customer replied. The lawyer, visibly upset, then emphasized that "this is not legal" because once the bread has been touched, it cannot be sold to anyone else.
As the old saying goes, 'You squeeze it, you buy it,' so you’ll have to pay for it
- the video’s creator commented.
What if you put your hand in and maliciously squeezed all the rolls just to make the store lose money? In my opinion, that would be considered property damage. To put it mildly, the rolls would lose their value, and you could be held accountable for an offense. Unless, of course, the value of the rolls exceeds 800 PLN, but then you’d really be acting maliciously
- Marcin Kruszewski added. The lawyer referred to Article 1 of the Misdemeanor Code, which states that "liability for a misdemeanor applies only to those who commit a socially harmful act prohibited by law under the threat of arrest, restriction of liberty, a fine of up to 5000 PLN, or a reprimand".
The video’s creator also noted that checking bread with bare hands is a "plague" that involves a lack of hygiene. "Squeezed" rolls become a breeding ground for bacteria because "who washes their hands before shopping?". The lawyer stressed that if you do touch a piece of bread, you should simply buy it, "not just out of respect for the law."
