On TikTok, the mother, who runs the @klepkowska profile, showcased how she arranged the space for her child. The video reveals a room with orange-painted walls. There’s a musical corner with various instruments, a swing, a table, a black wardrobe, and a bed. There are also shelves for books and toys.
I really like practical and timeless solutions, so I tried to arrange both the previous and this room with elements that will last for years. All the furniture here is universal, no matter what vision this room takes in the future
- the mother explained, adding that the walls are not yet fully decorated because over time, photos, drawings, diplomas, etc., will surely appear on them. "In such a space, they will definitely find their place and won't be hidden away in a folder" - she added.
"Omg... I saw a room like this in the '90s in a children’s shelter. All that's missing are bars on the windows…" - one person wrote. "It kind of has an old hospital or school vibe", "The atmosphere is like in an old gym", "Personally, I’d feel uncomfortable with that color, it looks like something in my stairwell", "It reminded me of some waiting room", "Like in an old hospital or clinic," others added. Some people defended the woman, appreciating that she created an "original room that fits well with the rest of the apartment" - and is different from all the rooms currently seen on the internet.
The wave of hate prompted @klepkowska to record another video in which she addressed the harsh criticism. She admitted that in over a decade of being active online and on social media, she had never received as many hurtful comments as under the video showing her child’s room.
I know that by publishing anything online, I have to expect either positive or negative feedback. However, I don't want, need, or will tolerate rudeness and malice. And the comments I received were mostly like that
- said @klepkowska. "I have this thought that if my husband had posted such a video, the tone and reception would have been completely different. I’m sure he would have gotten applause for being a great dad (...), while I received comments that people feel sorry for my child because I made him such a room".
The TikToker pointed out that mothers are still viewed differently by society, people are more likely to criticize them, and they often don’t appreciate their sacrifices and what they do or how they do it. Do you agree with her opinion?
