"The innocent dating game show turns into a deadly game when a psychopathic murderer participates"
- says the distributor of The Dating Game. The plot of the film is as follows:
A young and promising actress, Cheryl, is looking to kickstart her career, but the only opportunity she has is to appear on the dating show The Dating Game. With no other options, she agrees to take part. One of the three contestants on the show is the charming Rodney Alcala, whose engaging manner and clever answers captivate Cheryl. However, she doesn’t know that the attractive and seemingly gentle man is actually a psychopathic killer obsessed with young and naive women. When they meet in the studio, Alcala is at the peak of his bloody 'career'.
This marks the directorial debut of Anna Kendrick, who also stars in one of the lead roles. Alongside her, the film features Daniel Zovatto, Tony Hale, and Kelley Jakle. The movie, inspired by true events, hits Polish cinemas on October 11.
"He was striking, there was something bold about him" - recalled one of the people responsible for selecting participants for the show. "He’s very attractive, people will love him!" - she was convinced. After asking three questions on the show, Cheryl Bradshaw chose Alcala for the date.
"The next day, she called me and said she was sorry, but would it be a problem if she didn’t go on the date?" - Ellen Metzger recalled during an episode of 20/20 dedicated to Alcala's victims. When asked why she made that decision, Cheryl couldn’t give a specific reason. However, she mentioned that there was something "weird" about him.
