The incident took place on Sunday, January 21, aboard an Air Canada flight. Emmanuel Pacheco, one of the passengers traveling that day from London to Toronto, explained in an interview with CityNews Toronto that one of his fellow passengers "was acting strangely throughout the entire flight".
While the plane was flying over the Atlantic Ocean, the elderly man reportedly approached one of the emergency exits and attempted to open the door. Fortunately, the aircraft was at cruising altitude, making his plan physically impossible due to the pressure difference between the cabin and the outside air.
The flight crew decided not to alarm the other passengers and chose not to inform them about the incident. The plane landed safely at Toronto Pearson International Airport, where authorities were already waiting.
The passenger, an elderly man, appeared to be in a state of crisis and confusion. His actions did not seem intentional, and no criminal charges were filed
- stated a spokesperson for the local police.
This is not the first surprising incident to occur this month on an Air Canada flight. As reported a few days ago, on January 8, a passenger boarded a plane, then walked in the opposite direction, opened an emergency exit, and jumped onto the tarmac from a height of about six meters. The man was taken to the hospital, and the flight was delayed by six hours.
Five days earlier, an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Calgary was diverted to Winnipeg, Canada. The decision was made due to chaos onboard after a 16-year-old passenger attacked a family member. The passengers arrived at their destination with a three-hour delay.
