Senna is a shrub known as narrow-leaved cassia. It’s widely used in Arab countries but has gained popularity around the world for its beneficial properties. However, it turns out that its use can do more harm than good. You should be cautious, as this plant negatively impacts health.
Herbal teas are very popular in Poland, and the same goes for senna tea, which is often recommended and used for weight loss due to its laxative properties. However, the supposed benefits are deceptive because, while the tea may cleanse the intestines, it only results in short-term weight loss.
According to Medonet, senna itself is not toxic, but when used as a weight-loss aid, it wreaks havoc on the body. It causes dehydration, flushes out essential minerals, and can lead to severe stomach pain, changes in urine color, and liver damage. Unfortunately, long-term use of senna tea can lead to addiction, resulting in the intestines no longer functioning properly.
Pregnant women, children, and individuals with intestinal inflammation, kidney failure, or hemorrhoids should avoid using senna. The plant has such strong effects that senna tea has been banned in many countries. You can’t buy it in Germany, the UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, but it is still available in Poland. While using the tea occasionally may not cause significant harm, long-term use can lead to many health issues.
