This summer, Piotr Zieliński transferred to Inter Milan but sustained an injury early on, causing him to miss three matches. He made his first appearance for his new team this past Sunday, coming on in the 56th minute and delivering a solid performance against Monza (1-1). He had 57 touches of the ball and an impressive 93% passing accuracy. It's no surprise that Sofascore rated him 7.2 out of 10, one of the highest ratings on the team.
Zieliński is a valuable player, with great quality, and he can offer a lot to the team
- praised Simone Inzaghi after the match. Although Zieliński is in Italy preparing for upcoming games, his thoughts are surely with what’s happening in his homeland, especially since the disaster has directly affected his family.
The torrential rains and storms that have plagued southern Poland for several days have caused rivers to overflow, flooding nearby areas. Zieliński's family experienced the destructive force firsthand.
In an interview, his father Bogusław gave more details. "Everyone in the area knows someone affected by the flood" - he began in his conversation with WP SportoweFakty.
Our accountant’s office in Kamieniec was flooded, and she had to relocate. Piotrek’s wife’s family lost their store in Lądek. The water destroyed it, completely wiped it out. There’s no building left. It was a low-lying shop, and it just disappeared. Other family members near Stronie Śląskie are cut off, without power, and are having to rely on generators
- he continued.
Zieliński’s father wasn’t severely impacted by the flood, but nearby towns weren’t so fortunate.
Thankfully, we didn’t suffer much damage. There was some water here and there, and Orzeł Ząbkowice's pitch is soaked, so training was canceled, but that’s nothing compared to what’s happening in the surrounding areas. (...) In Bardo, where I used to coach, you can see about thirty centimeters of the goalpost above the crossbar. That’s how much water has flooded in. And that’s only 10 kilometers from us
- he emphasized.
The situation in southern Poland remains dire, with many towns in Silesia, including Głuchołazy, Kłodzko, Bystrzyca Kłodzka, and Nysa, submerged. Worse still, warnings of a second wave have been issued. The government is offering financial aid to those affected by the disaster, and numerous fundraising efforts are underway to support the flood victims.
Meanwhile, Zieliński is preparing for his next match, a crucial Champions League game against Manchester City on Wednesday at 9:00 PM. You can find information about this match and other European competitions on the Sport.pl homepage and our mobile app.
