Do You Use Netflix on Your iPhone? This Update Might Be a Problem

Apple has informed mobile device users that they will need to update their software to iOS 17 if they want to continue using the Netflix app. This poses a significant issue for owners of older iPhone models.

Each year, with the release of a new iPhone model, older devices are given the opportunity to update to the latest software. Apple provides system support for up to five years after a model's release. Once that period has passed, older devices lose the ability to update to the latest software version. This year, iOS 17 will not be available for iPhone X, iPhone 8, and earlier models.

Is This the End of Netflix on Older iPhones?

This means that owners of these models will soon lose the ability to use the Netflix app on their devices, although Apple has yet to specify exactly when this will happen. However, there are still many users of models older than the iPhone 11, partly due to the price of newer devices (which, though not as high as in recent years, are still significant) and the less noticeable technological advancements.

In the past, over just six years, we could witness rapid technological developments, particularly in mobile devices. Take, for example, the transition from basic cell phones to touchscreen smartphones. Today, almost everyone (except for some seniors) uses devices with similar functions, which may discourage users from frequently upgrading to newer models.

On September 22, the iPhone 16 will officially go on sale. Along with the new model, Apple has announced the system update to iOS 18.
