For years, Camila Giorgi was a top player in the world of tennis. Recently, however, she mysteriously disappeared from competition. After her defeat against Iga Świątek in Miami this past March, she abruptly stopped competing without any announcement. In early May, at the age of 32, she officially retired from tennis. She also significantly reduced her social media activity and moved to the United States. Rumors in Italy were rampant, claiming she had fled the country. A few days ago, the truth came to light.
The former tennis star was accused of using a fake COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Additionally, both Giorgi and her parents were allegedly being pursued for unpaid taxes. They were also said to have left a luxury villa they were renting without paying rent, taking valuable antiques, furniture, and Persian rugs with them.
A few days ago, Giorgi’s lawyer addressed the rumors of her supposed escape in an interview with Corriere del Veneto. "Camila Giorgi is in Rome. Over the past few months, she has been traveling for work. In short, she hasn’t fled, as some have suggested" - said Edmondo Tomaselli. "My client spent some time in the United States, then returned to Italy, where she is also working on some professional projects. But she has never disappeared" - he added.
So, what are these professional projects? According to The Sun, the 32-year-old retired from her tennis career to become a model specializing in showcasing luxury lingerie. Giorgi has been sharing the results of her work on Instagram. The Italian website oggi.it also reported that she’s trying her hand as a fashion designer, running her own brand, "Giomila".
But Giorgi’s professional ambitions don’t end there. "I have many projects that I need to work on gradually. As a hobby, I enjoy writing: my dream is to write a children’s book. I also see myself on the court with the youngest and people with disabilities. One day, I would like to dedicate myself primarily to that" - she confessed.
