Marcin Patrzałek was born on October 6, 2000, in Kielce, Poland, and started learning to play the guitar at the age of 10. He later studied flamenco techniques under the Spanish guitarist Carlos Piñana, which helped him develop his unique sound. This distinctive style led him to victory in the 9th edition of Must Be the Music in Poland.
Three years after his Polish win, Patrzałek also competed in the Italian show Tu Si Que Vales, where he gained a lot of attention from the audience. However, his greatest fame came in 2019 when he appeared on America’s Got Talent, where he wowed Simon Cowell. "Incredible, that was incredible," Cowell said during his audition.
The judges unanimously advanced Patrzałek to the next round, a huge honor for the young musician. "99% of people who come on stage with a guitar don’t know how to play it. You demonstrated what this instrument is truly capable of. That was extraordinary," Cowell added, predicting a spectacular career for him. Ultimately, Patrzałek’s journey on the show ended in the semifinals.
Some time ago, Guitar World magazine named Patrzałek "one of the most talented guitarists of his generation." Now, his debut album Dragon in Harmony has been released, produced by Dan Book, known for working with artists like Britney Spears. "I was born in 2000, the Year of the Dragon, and I’m releasing my debut album in 2024, another Year of the Dragon. It seemed like a fitting idea. The dragon is a fiery mythical beast, untamed and chaotic. Then there’s this idea of harmony, which is its total opposite," the 24-year-old explained about his concept.
The album features 14 tracks, including several collaborations with Tim Henson of Polyphia, Japanese guitarist Ichika Nito, and Delaney Bailey. "In recent years, I’ve done a lot of things, but I didn’t necessarily tie them all together - it was all in pieces. Finally, I’ve created an artistic statement that is cohesive. The dragon is in harmony," Patrzałek added proudly.
One of the songs, titled "When the Light Goes," was created in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning rock band Portugal. The Man, whose lead singer John Gourley noticed Patrzałek a few years ago. "John is such a sweetheart; I can’t thank him enough. Working on this song, from start to finish, is one of my most cherished memories," Patrzałek said.
This is not his only success, as he has already completed his first concert tour across Asia and North America, which sold out in no time. He is now preparing for another tour, this time across Europe, which is set to kick off in mid-March 2025.
