Juventus started the current season quite well. Thiago Motta's team won the first two Serie A matches against Como (3-0) and Verona (3-0), followed by goalless draws with Roma, Empoli, and Napoli. Juventus also won their first Champions League match, defeating PSV Eindhoven 3-1.
However, the same success can't be said for Juventus' second team. Known as "Next Gen", this U23 team competes in Serie C, Italy's third division.
On Sunday, Juventus II played an away match against Trapani and drew 1-1. After the game, the team was supposed to fly back, but things took an unpleasant turn at the airport. Their flight, scheduled for 11:00 PM, was canceled.
The next flight was set for 7:00 AM, but it was also canceled. The team only found out an hour before the scheduled departure. As a result, the young Juventus players spent the night at the airport in vain.
The team finally arrived in Bergamo, nearly 200 kilometers from Turin, on Monday after 11:00 AM. Interestingly, Juventus II is scheduled to play another match on Thursday, this time facing Serie C's second-placed team, Picerno.
"Congratulations to those who decided to place Juventus in Group C," Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale sarcastically remarked. Serie C is divided into three groups, and Juventus II was placed in the last one, forcing them to play matches in Sicily against Trapani, Messina, and Catania, all more than 1,600 kilometers from Turin.
But these aren't the only trips Juventus II must make to southern Italy. The young Turin team also has to travel to places like Crotone, a nearly 1,300-kilometer journey for a league match, or Taranto, which is almost 1,100 kilometers away from Turin. Benevento is 1,000 kilometers away, and Avellino, Picerno, or Foggia involve nearly 900-kilometer trips.
After five matches, Juventus II has collected five points, putting them in 14th place in Group C of Serie C.
