The Menendez Brothers Speak Out in New Netflix Documentary: "It's Not the Whole Truth"

The documentary, in which the Menendez brothers will speak publicly about the murders for the first time in 30 years, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 9. The trailer, featuring clips of Erik and Lyle, has already been released online. "Everyone asks why we killed our parents. Maybe now they will finally understand. Everyone knows what happened that night, but it’s not the whole truth," we hear in the teaser for the documentary.

Erik Menendez has been critical of Ryan Murphy’s series *Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story*. The incarcerated man shared his thoughts on the production in a letter to his wife, Tammi Menendez, who published his statement on the social media platform X. "They did this deliberately. It is with a heavy heart that I must say Ryan Murphy is not so naive and inaccurate in his work as to not uncover the reliable facts of our lives—there must have been bad intentions behind it," Tammi Menendez quoted her husband.

Ryan Murphy, the show's creator, responded to Erik Menendez’s accusations. "I think it's interesting that he made a statement without seeing the show. I believe it's really hard to see your life portrayed on screen. What's interesting, and what Erik doesn’t mention in his statement, is that 60-65 percent of our series focuses on the abuse, molestation, and what they claimed happened to them. We handled it very carefully," stated the Netflix showrunner. The series has also drawn criticism from viewers, particularly for one scene that sparked significant emotions among the audience.
