Wojciech Szczęsny is already in Barcelona! It's really happening

It's really happening! Wojciech Szczęsny landed at Barcelona's airport on Monday around 10:30 a.m., where he is set to undergo medical tests and sign a contract with the Blaugrana. The 34-year-old has been followed by Spanish journalists since the morning, and it's even known which plane he flew on.

Wojciech Szczęsny has landed in Barcelona. Contract signing is imminent

According to flight radars and reports from Spanish media, the Polish goalkeeper was expected to land in the Catalan capital at 10:30 a.m., and that indeed happened. Shortly after his arrival, journalists and fans greeted him at the airport, and soon after, a car took him to FC Barcelona’s headquarters. According to Victor Navarro, club staff had been expecting the Pole since his departure from Málaga.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo captured Szczęsny as he left the airport with a full entourage of Barcelona staff.

The goalkeeper will now undergo medical tests, followed by the official signing of his contract. The deal is expected to last for one year, with the 84-time capped Polish international set to earn around two million euros. He is expected to be ready to play by mid-October, following the international break, though he will first focus on regaining match fitness.

A month ago, Szczęsny announced his retirement from football after terminating his contract with Juventus. When Marc-André ter Stegen suffered an injury, Szczęsny became a surprising candidate to replace the German in the coming months. Initially, it seemed like wishful thinking on the part of Polish fans, but it has now become a reality.

Of course, Szczęsny's teammate will be Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker reportedly had a hand in bringing his friend to Catalonia, even suggesting to coach Hansi Flick that the "retired" Szczęsny might be tempted to return to play for the Spanish giants.
