There is no need to elaborate on the devastating effects of acid attacks. Every year, many women around the world fall victim to such assaults. While these attacks occur in Europe and the United States, they are most common in countries like India and Pakistan. Perpetrators often choose hydrochloric or sulfuric acid, using its effects to strip their victims of the ability to function in society. The acid causes severe burns, typically third and fourth degree, and heats up upon contact with the skin. Healing takes many months, leaving behind disfiguring scars. Katie Piper experienced this firsthand, and her painful and difficult story has garnered attention worldwide.

Who threw acid on Katie Piper? Her ex-boyfriend hired a man to do it

In 2008, Katie was 24 when she told Daniel Lynch that their relationship was over. Unable to accept the breakup, Lynch kidnapped her, imprisoned her in a hotel room, and raped her for several hours. He later drove her home, but this traumatic event was not the end of her suffering.

A few days later, Daniel hired 19-year-old Stefan Sylvestre to throw sulfuric acid on Katie Piper. The attack occurred on March 31, 2008, as she left her house and headed to a café. The acid attack left Katie permanently disfigured—not only on her face but also on her arms, hands, and chest. She also lost partial vision in her left eye, although it significantly improved after stem cell treatment.

I felt like my face was falling off, steaming, burning alive

- she recounted years later in an interview with Sky News.

What is Katie Piper doing now? She is married, has two children, and advocates for others

Both men were sentenced to life imprisonment. Lynch received a minimum sentence of 16 years, and Sylvestre a minimum of six years. In 2015, Katie married carpenter Richard Sutton, with whom she has two daughters, Belle and Penelope. They met through a mutual friend. Today, Katie is involved in charity work and is focused on creating a specialized rehabilitation center to assist adults who have suffered burns. She is also active on social media, where she shares her difficult experiences.
