Stephen King Praises Teacup

Teacup follows a familiar and beloved premise: a small local community is cut off from the world and must face an unknown threat. The production is based on Robert McCammon's novel Stinger, where an entity with incredible powers arrives on Earth with the sole purpose of destruction. Battling the monster and survival are the main themes in Teacup. Stephen King briefly described the upcoming series from James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) and Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone):

It's weird, unsettling, claustrophobic, and scary. Beware of the Man in the Gas Mask. Short episodes, each one great, no filler

- King praised on X (formerly Twitter).

At the same time, the creators warn fans of the book not to get too attached to what they read in McCammon's sci-fi thriller. The show is inspired by Stinger, but it won’t follow the book word for word:

I read the book and told the producer that I would write him a script that is 99.8% different

- said Ian McCulloch, the showrunner.

If he liked it, we’d make it; if not, no problem. So yes, the series is based on the book. (...) But I didn’t want it to be a faithful adaptation. A book is a book, and it’s a maximized horror fiction: there’s a whole town, helicopters, various alien-related elements... You can see the 80s inspirations - Terminator, Alien - it feels like a great B-movie. But that’s not how I work. So, we cut it all down, like a song cover - there’s the song and then its acoustic version. If the song is good, the acoustic version will be good too. That’s what we did here

- McCulloch explained in an interview with Bloody-Disgusting.

Teacup features Yvonne Strahovski, known from The Handmaid’s Tale, and Scott Speedman (Grey's Anatomy). The series will first premiere on the American platform Peacock, but a month later, on November 16th, it will be available in Poland on the SkyShowtime platform.
