Bank Robbery in Częstochowa: He Wanted to Steal Money to Support Selena Gomez

At the time of the robbery, nine bank employees and several customers were inside. Dawid G. pulled a gas pistol from a shopping bag and aimed it at the cashier, demanding 50,000 złoty.

He also declared that he had an explosive device and would detonate it if he didn’t receive the money, the prosecutor explained. He packed the received money into a bag, but as he was leaving the building, he was caught by the police. Officers subdued him with a taser, and it turned out that he did not have any explosive device. Dawid G. was charged with armed robbery and hostage-taking. Initially, he denied the crimes during his interrogation but explained that he needed the money to travel to the U.S., where he intended to help Selena Gomez, who was facing health issues at the time. The trial began on September 18, 2023. During the investigation, he eventually admitted to committing the crimes.

At Dawid G.’s residence, police found over 100 rounds of ammunition. It was later revealed that the gun and ammunition belonged to his father. As a result, the 57-year-old father was charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in a separate case to a year of suspended imprisonment. The trial of his son, however, lasted another year, and during the proceedings, psychiatrists concluded that the 29-year-old was fully sane at the time of the crime. In January this year, the District Court sentenced him to four years in prison. The prosecutor decided to appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal in Katowice, requesting a 12-year sentence. Ultimately, the Court of Appeal increased the sentence to six years. The verdict is final.
