Are You Getting Into the Car with This Hairstyle? You Might Want to Rethink It. "Well, Now I Have Another Phobia"

When we get into a car, we usually don't expect to be involved in an accident. However, accidents do happen, and it's important to be prepared. A popular doctor highlights the importance of minimizing risks, not just of accidents but also of their consequences. One way to do this is by paying attention to your hairstyle.

Who would have thought that the way we style our hair could affect the outcome of an accident? It turns out that it’s quite possible. In a short but impactful video, a German doctor shared this surprising information.

Getting into the Car with This Accessory? Better Leave It Behind

Dr. Sri Manivannan is active on social media, using her profession not only in her hospital practice but also online to educate people on how to minimize the risk of injuries related to car accidents. On her TikTok and Instagram, you’ll find videos addressing topics like passengers riding with their feet on the dashboard or leaving a child in a hot car "just for a minute." Some of her warnings are obvious (though we still hear of accidents), while others are things we might never think about.

One such overlooked detail is the hairstyle we choose when driving. The concern involves a particular accessory that many of us use frequently: hair clips. A lot of women prefer using hair clips because they’re more convenient and quicker than tying their hair with a band, which explains their growing popularity. However, it’s better to keep those clips in your purse while driving.

Beware of Hair Clips in the Car. "Well, Now I Have Another Phobia"

There are numerous reports of women being injured in car accidents, but in many cases, the injuries were not only caused by the loss of control over the vehicle. In the event of a collision or sudden braking (especially when the airbag deploys), the head can hit the headrest with great force. If you're wearing a hair clip, it can be driven into the back of your head. Dr. Sri Manivannan has these images in mind whenever she instinctively reaches for a hair clip.

In the comments under her video, there were plenty of jokes. "What kind of titanium clip is this? My little plastic one breaks if I squeeze it too hard," wrote one user. "How can anyone wear that while driving? They’re so uncomfortable," added another. "Well, now I have another phobia," read another comment. However, the issue is indeed serious, and it's worth being aware that what we wear on our heads can make a big difference in the event of an accident.
