In the ranking of the worst-rated Polish dishes, there are a few items that some might indeed find unappealing. However, it is surprising how many of these dishes are traditional or regional delicacies. It's hard to imagine a festive table or a typical Polish meal without them. See how internet users rated Polish cuisine.
For many, Polish cuisine might be too heavy. Most traditional dishes are rich in fats, and we like to use flour. Some of the most popular dishes include pork chops, pierogi, meats like pork knuckle, and cakes like cheesecake and poppy seed cake. However, foreigners often cannot understand the phenomenon of pickled foods and dishes with a strong sour taste, such as bigos. Many people outside Poland do not tolerate such food and believe we add spoiled ingredients to our dishes. The results of the ranking may confirm this.
For some, Polish cuisine is a wealth of flavors, while for others, it’s a strange combination of ingredients. The international portal Taste Atlas identified the worst-rated dishes from our native cuisine. The top spot went to czernina, also known as black soup. It is made with duck broth and goose, duck, or rabbit blood, preserved with vinegar to prevent clotting, with typical additions including dried fruits and cloves. According to internet users, it is the second-worst soup in the world and the worst-rated Polish soup.
The second spot went to strawberry soup. Some love it, while others would prefer not to encounter it at dinner. It is treated more like a dessert than a first course. Made with frozen or fresh strawberries, sugar, and pasta, sometimes with sour cream. It’s hard to believe that internet users dislike it both as a soup and a dessert. Strawberry soup ranked first among the worst-rated Polish desserts. The third place went to Polish parówkowa sausage, which combines the flavors of sausage and hot dogs. It received less than three stars out of five, although 45% of reviewers said they actually liked it.
The list of the worst-rated dishes includes items such as szałot, a traditional Silesian salad that resembles the German kartoffelsalat. Among the 71 items, various types of blood sausage, such as żymlok and krupnioki, clearly stand out. Internet users also disliked tripe soup, poppy seed cake, lard, mazurek, faworki, and kogel-mogel. The least liked dishes included smoked ribs, knysza, and piróg biłgorajski. Considering Polish tradition, the vast majority of these dishes should not have made it to the ranking.
