We Discovered the Ranking of the Best Polish Soups. Poles Are Outraged. "This Soup Doesn't Exist"

The culinary portal TasteAtlas recently published a ranking of the nine best Polish soups. While the leader of the list wasn't much of a surprise, Polish internet users were shocked by the dish that ranked fifth. Many people heard of its existence for the first time.

TasteAtlas is an online travel guide to traditional cuisines of the world, where you can find not only recipes and recommendations but also rankings of the best and worst dishes. The list of top Polish soups released yesterday caused quite a stir among our nation. It turns out that either Poles are unfamiliar with their own cuisine, or the authors of the list confused us with another country. A dish that no one recognizes has appeared in the ranking.

Ranking of the Best Polish Soups. The Winner is a Holiday Favorite

We Poles love all kinds of rankings, especially those that appreciate our country. For this reason, every publication by TasteAtlas mentioning a Polish dish gets a lot of attention. The same goes for the list of the best soups. The winner of the ranking was the widely known and loved żurek. This holiday dish, made with smoked meats, remained at the top of the list for another year (it took second place in 2023).

The ranking also appreciated soups such as: zalewajka, mushroom soup, red borscht, wild mushroom soup, broth, sauerkraut soup, and tomato soup. While some were puzzled by the division between mushroom soup and wild mushroom soup (after all, both are essentially mushroom soups), the real shock and public outcry were caused by the dish that ranked fifth.

Internet Users in Shock After the List's Publication. "This Soup Doesn't Exist"

"This soup doesn't exist!", "First time hearing this," and "What the heck is this?!" - write outraged Polish internet users on social media. This is the reaction to the news that the ranking of Polish soups included... lemon soup. Although such a dish does exist, it is not found in our traditional cuisine.

Originally, lemon soup comes from sunny Greece. Associating it with Poland seems not only misplaced but also illogical. Can anyone point out where lemons grow in our country? Users on Instagram and other platforms are demanding justice from the authors of the ranking and a deeper dive into the topic of traditional Polish cuisine.
