Caitlin Horrox had struggled for many years to lose weight effectively. Weighing over 155 kg, she decided to undergo bariatric surgery. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find any doctor in the UK willing to help her. Ultimately, she decided to pay and have the procedure done in Turkey. Although she managed to shed the excess weight, she is not satisfied with her decision.
The surgery in Turkey, including flights, cost Caitlin around 3,000 pounds, which is just over 15,000 PLN. Initially, she was impressed with the clinic, which even had a popular coffee chain, as well as a gym and sauna, and the care seemed top-notch. Unfortunately, it turned out that not everything went according to plan.
It has been 14 months since Caitlin's surgery. During this time, the 24-year-old has managed to lose 89 kilograms. However, weight loss is the only positive outcome of her situation. Since the surgery, she has regularly ended up in the hospital due to constant vomiting and dehydration.
I’ve been vomiting every day since the surgery and am in the hospital to receive fluids because I’m very dehydrated
- she said, as quoted by "The Sun." Recently, it was revealed that the surgery didn’t go as planned, as a narrowing developed in her stomach. But that’s not all.
The problem isn’t my stomach but my esophagus, which I knew from the beginning because I can’t digest food, so I throw it up. My esophagus is probably too small and narrow
- the 24-year-old explained.
Caitlin doesn’t feel pain, but due to the vomiting, she has serious health issues. Recently, she has lost consciousness twice due to the unpleasant symptoms. "I just can’t control it" - she admitted. She is currently under the care of doctors with whom she is planning the next steps in her treatment. She will most likely have to undergo another surgery. Because of the side effects, she is now warning others to carefully consider their decisions. "This surgery is not a quick fix. It’s for life. There’s no going back, so definitely consider all your options" - she says.
