Simona Kossak, the daughter of painter Jerzy Kossak and granddaughter of Wojciech, grew up without the artistic talent that defined her family for generations. She also lacked the warmth from her domineering mother. After finishing her studies, she abandoned everything—her home, tradition, and social conventions - and took up a position as a researcher in Białowieża, starting a life on her own terms. Now, the creators of the film Simona want to tell her story, and the film will compete for the Golden Lions at the 49th Gdynia Polish Film Festival in September.
Directed by Adrian Panek, the film is a story of independence and determination in the search for one's place in the world. The cast includes Jakub Gierszał, Agata Kulesza, Borys Szyc, Olga Bołądź, and Marianna Zydek. Simona Kossak will hit cinemas on November 22, and the filmmakers have released the trailer and the movie poster.
In the film, we see Simona Kossak settling in the heart of the forest, in a house without electricity or running water, surrounded by wild nature. There, in this magical isolation, she meets photographer Lech Wilczek, with whom she shares her passions - a love for nature and a need for freedom. Their extraordinary relationship defies all conventions. However, Simona's ideals about working as a naturalist and her position as a young woman in a male-dominated world face harsh challenges. She must defend not only her ideals but also the world of plants and animals.
Our film certainly touches on environmental protection, addressing the issues Simona fought for, but it's not just for nature lovers. It's a film about individual struggle, about a strong woman with a powerful character. It’s about a person who made a significant mark on our culture and consciousness
- added Jakub Gierszał, who plays Simona Kossak's partner, Lech Wilczek.
