It’s now confirmed that the premiere of The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will be on February 11, and the animation set in Sapkowski’s universe will arrive on Netflix with a slight delay. Early announcements had given hope for a release by the end of 2024.
Andrzej Sapkowski’s books have seen multiple adaptations and interpretations over the last 20 years, ranging from video games to several TV series with varying levels of reception. In addition to the games, there are two series directly connected to The Witcher saga, the rather wild Blood Origin spinoff, the upcoming Rats adaptation, and the anime The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Sirens of the Deep is linked to this last title, as it will also be an anime in a Japanese style.
Studio Mir has adapted Sapkowski’s short story A Little Sacrifice. The production team managed to bring on board a star well-known to international fans of the CD Projekt Red game. Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt in the games, will reprise his role in the animation as well.
Along with the release date, a new three-minute clip from the film has been unveiled. It’s introduced by Geralt himself, voiced by Doug Cockle:
That’s right. Geralt will be back in action soon, fighting not just people and monsters, but also sirens. Yes, he will actually be battling sirens! Mark your calendars: February 11, 2025
- says Cockle. And, of course, it ends with Geralt’s signature "hmmm".
The past and upcoming years are undeniably dominated by Geralt. In addition to the mentioned titles, we’ll soon get another season of Netflix’s live-action series (regardless of how it may be received), with Liam Hemsworth taking over the lead role. While the new season doesn’t yet have a release date, production is ongoing. Next year, a new Witcher book by Andrzej Sapkowski is set to hit bookstores, expanding the universe even further. And that’s not all. CD Projekt Red is working on at least one major new Witcher game, although no specific release date has been announced yet – which, for the Polish studio, could mean anything. Fans may be waiting for the new Witcher game for as long as a decade (just like with Cyberpunk 2077).
