Cristiano Ronaldo needs no introduction to football fans. After spending incredible years at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, Ronaldo has moved to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia for the twilight of his career, where he will likely hang up his boots. However, that moment might be further away than expected, as recent reports suggest the 39-year-old has no immediate plans to retire.
All of Ronaldo's success can largely be attributed to his self-discipline. Despite his massive fame, he has always stayed grounded, focusing on work and family, avoiding distractions that could negatively affect his development.
It turns out that Ronaldo wants to instill the same values in his children. The eldest of his five children is Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., who is currently 14 years old. At that age, Junior could legally start using social media to build his own brand and image. However, that is not the case.
In a 2023 video, Ronaldo explained why he doesn’t allow his son to use such platforms. Moreover, Junior reportedly doesn’t even have a phone. "To be honest, I won't buy my son a smartphone. I am an athlete with the most followers on Instagram worldwide, and my followers often ask me why I don’t let my son be on social media. The reason is that my son created a secret Instagram account in 2020 and gained... a million followers in one day," Ronaldo revealed.
The 39-year-old then admitted that such a sudden rise in popularity could negatively impact many aspects of his son's life, both in sports and in his personal relationships. "When I found out, I told him to delete the account immediately. Now, even though he's 14, he still doesn’t have a smartphone. I made this decision because I want him to understand the value of hard work. I want to teach him to train hard and reach his potential," Ronaldo added. He went on to say that he fears his son could become addicted to technology. "I'm delaying that moment, but one day, he will get a phone," he concluded.
