The leaves rustle underfoot, lemonade has been replaced by hot tea, and before leaving home, we check if we have taken a scarf instead of sunglasses – it's a sign that autumn has arrived. And with autumn comes October and Halloween. Many people celebrate this spooky holiday by watching horror movies. Over the years, this extremely diverse and often controversial genre has become so popular that there are plenty of good horror films to fill an entire month of viewing. Here are the films and series available on Netflix that are most worth watching.
The best movie for Halloween is definitely "Halloween". John Carpenter started the Michael Myers saga back in 1978. For many, it remains one of the best slashers in history, and it's hard to disagree. The film tells the story of an escaped mental patient who returns to his hometown to kill. Myers is terrifying with his calm and passivity. He doesn't chase his victims but follows them slowly, without sudden movements, and above all, he acts in complete silence, always wearing a disturbing mask. Even after all this time, it's hard not to appreciate the film's technical aspects, from the suggestive camera work to the lighting, editing, and especially the music. It all adds up to a movie that keeps the viewer in constant tension.
Starting October 18, Netflix will also offer another classic slasher, "A Nightmare on Elm Street," by Wes Craven. The film introduced Freddy Krueger, a killer who attacks in dreams. The power of this film lies not only in the terrifying concept of being attacked in your sleep but also in the visual effects, which, although sometimes kitschy, still impress and inspire future creators.

For fans of modern horror, Netflix offers two films by Jordan Peele, one of the most interesting horror filmmakers today. His films mix horror with social commentary. You can find "Get Out" (2017) on Netflix, a story about racism with a dark, disturbing twist. Peele’s film "Nope" blends sci-fi, western, and horror, exploring human and artistic boundaries.
Finally, "The Conjuring" (2013) is highly rated, telling the story of paranormal investigators helping a family haunted by a demon. Although it follows classic horror tropes, it remains genuinely terrifying.
Netflix also offers notable horror series, like "The Haunting of Hill House" by Mike Flanagan, which digs deeper into character development while offering a mix of horror and family drama. The series "From" offers a mystery-filled story in a town no one can leave, where terrifying creatures emerge after dark.
