I never paid much attention to Austria on my travel list. I had driven through it many times, admiring the views from the car window or visiting a few larger cities, thinking there was nothing more of interest. I was completely wrong!
The saying "You praise others, but don’t know your own" perfectly describes how wrong I was in thinking that for stunning natural views, I needed to travel outside Europe. I didn’t realize that just a few hours away by car, I could see views that are truly reminiscent of Iceland.
The first place I visited was the Salza waterfall. A short trail, taking only 40 minutes, is described as moderately challenging. I’ll never forget the sight of the beautiful waterfall I found there!
However, it’s not the top place on my list. If you decide to take a trip to Austria, you must visit the Krimml waterfall.
One of the tallest waterfalls in Europe, it’s a true showcase of Austria’s natural beauty. I recommend visiting on a sunny day, when the falling water creates a rainbow, offering a truly spectacular display.
During my, unfortunately too short, trip to Austria, I visited one more place. I reached Lake Lüner through a picturesque valley from the town of Brand.
The view I encountered was truly incredible. This large lake is called the "Alpine gem" because it’s surrounded by beautiful mountain trails.
Despite the number of tourists at this spot, you can still find a secluded place to marvel at nature and relax at the foot of the mountains.
